JOB DESCRIPTION
Rail Engineer End Point Assessor. Home based role with travel. The salary is negotiable.
Are you an experienced Rail Engineer interested in moving into the Training sector, using your experience to assess Apprentices at the end of their studies?
An ideal candidate would be someone who has worked their way up into a Rail Engineer role, from being a fitter or mechanic, but this is not essential.
This isn’t a Teaching / Tutor role – is it assessing the competence of Apprentices at the end of their Apprenticeships.
Apprentices will typically be working in the following roles:
- Track Engineer,
- Rail Civil Engineer,
- Asset Engineer,
- Rail Systems Integration Engineer,
- Rail Project Engineer,
- Approvals and Certification Engineer,
- Lead Signal Design Engineer,
- Signalling & Control Systems Engineer, Telecomms Engineer,
- Traction and Rolling Stock Engineer,
- Rail Electrification Engineer,
- Rail Mechanical Engineer and
- Rail Building Services Engineer.
THE ROLE
The main duties of the job will involve:
The development of a range of Rail engineering-related end-point assessments, that relate to your area of expertise. You will be involved in developing the following material:
- Writing questions for Knowledge Tests
- Developing Professional Discussions/Interviews
- Designing Practical Specifications
- Preparing and maintaining official company documentation for these assessments
A major part of the role is being able to independently research subjects and produce appropriate content for apprentices to be assessed on.
You will be trained by the organisation as an End Point Assessor, and will then travel across the country assessing Rail Engineering and Maintenance Apprentices on-site – performing End Point Assessments – so flexibility to travel is required (mileage is paid)
ADDITIONAL INFO
There will also be an option of further training to expand the number of standards (Construction / Engineering subjects) that they you potentially assess. Opportunity to gain a level of professional recognition in your area of expertise e.g. Eng. Tech, I. Eng, C.Eng
The nature of the job will also provide an opportunity to continuously maintain your Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
Applicants will ideally hold relevant Rail Engineering qualifications, have good IT and communication skills, and be interested in moving into the Education and Training side of the industry.
To apply for this position check out the original post here. If not feel free to share this with a friend or fellow colleague.
PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE
When uploading this post we noticed a distinct lack of what we would consider required qualifications. To be an Assessor you would need to hold either an; A1/2, D32/33, or CAVA which we have a link to HERE. Similarly so, to be a FE practitioner, in other words, a Trainer, you should hold at a minimum the AET (Level 3 Award in Education and Training). The position does not ask for these so do not feel deterred to apply if you do not possess them. However, it is in our professional opinion you need to have either qualification before applying.
